PRIMARY

WE WILL MAKE LEARNING EXCITING AND RELEVANT, AND ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO MAKE POSITIVE CHOICES.

The curriculum we follow from Year 1 to Year 6 is based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. They complete their education with the Spanish Language and Social Studies subjects of the Spanish curriculum, making our educational offer compatible with the Spanish educational system.

In Primary, we have developed an approach to learning based on topics (themes), which are developed in various subjects in a cross-curricular way. Through these topics we teach all the knowledge and skills included in the curriculum. The topics are different and progressively difficult for each year group and allow children to develop key skills and knowledge while covering the whole curriculum content in an interesting and engaging way.

Our topic-based learning also allows for a personalized approach for each student and empowers all children to access and fully immerse themselves in their learning, developing each student’s potential. This encourages not only a love of learning and research, but also greater independence.

The curriculum includes a wide range of subjects:

TAUGHT IN ENGLISH BY BRITISH TEACHERS:

English
Phonics
Guided Reading
Mathematics
Science
PSHE
Physical Education
Music
Topic: including geography, history, art, DT & ICT

TAUGHT IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE:

Language (in Spanish)
Social Studies (in Spanish)
French or German from Y4 upwards

We believe that educating children means helping them to become independent learners; the link between home and school is essential to achieve this. Motivation is key and, to achieve this, we also encourage the use of incentives in the form of diplomas, marking systems and prizes. We will make learning exciting and encourage children to make positive choices.

At International School Andalucía we tailor the curriculum to the different abilities of each pupil. Children are supported by teachers and assistants when they have difficulties with certain aspects of the curriculum. Teachers also ensure that children who are above average are motivated and continue to improve.
